Newt Thomas is the retired Senior Vice President of ITT Carbon Industries. Newton holds a BCE degree from Cornell University and served in the U.S. Air Force, reaching rank of First Lieutenant. He has served on many civic and charitable organization boards, including President and Director of the United Way of Kanawha Valley, Chairman of the West Virginia Air Pollution Control Commission, President and Director of the Education Alliance of West Virginia, Chairman and Trustee of the Charleston Area Medical Center Foundation, President and Director of Edgewood Summit, Inc., Vice Chairman and Trustee of the Mountain Institute, Director of the National Institute for Chemical Studies, Director of the Federal Reserve Board-Fifth District (Richmond, Virginia), Vice President and Director of the West Virginia Symphony, Chairman and Trustee of Davis and Elkins College, Chairman of BIDCO and Chairman of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.

Currently, Newton is Director of BIDCO, Chairman and Director of the Center for the Arts and Sciences of West Virginia, Inc., President of the Daywood Foundation, Trustee of the Jacobson Foundation, Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, Advisory Board member of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, and Director of the West Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges. He is a member of the West Virginia Council for Community and Economic Development, Director of the United Way, and Director of the Buckskin Council, Boy Scouts of America.
